We are constantly working with our suppliers to create sustainable products that prioritise animal welfare, workers rights and environmental responsibility.
Our wool and alpaca yarns come from lots of small farms, mostly in South America. First the animals are shorn using mulesing-free techniques which means the sheep are not mistreated and subjected to this cruel practice whilst shearing. The yarn tops (the fluffy nice stuff that is then spun) are dyed using low impact dyes that are certified by Oekotex and/or are Reach compliant.
We have really cool up-cycled yarns from the textile industry. They would normally end up in a landfill, however we recycle these materials to give them a second life:
Our Jersey Be Good is a t-shirt yarn made from the offcuts of fabric rolls which are then spun into spools, and our Mixtape yarn is regenerated from the scraps of jersey production.
Our Billie Jean yarn is made from up-cycled denim and produced by The New Denim Project (who are a really awesome company!).
We’re pleased to state that we also have a range of vegan yarns which we’ve listed below:
Our Shiny Happy Cotton yarn is grown in North Peru and is Oekotex certified and Reach compliant.
The Ra-Ra Raffia yarn is made from wood pulp which is sourced from Vancouver, Canada and is Reach compliant and FSC certified. The pulp is dyed in Taiwan and then turned into paper which then goes through a slitting process and is twisted and put onto spools.
Our Tina Tape yarn is made from eucalyptus which is dyed using low impact dyes. The process uses renewable energy and the yarn is 100% biodegradable (so an all round winner!).
Buddy Hemp is made from cotton which is grown in Turkey and the hemp is grown in China - they are then spun together in Italy and this yarn is also Reach compliant.
